Setting Primary Static LAN Connection Parameters Check the Network Hotplugging box to have your network brought up and down automatically when you connect and disconnect the network cable. This is specially handy for laptop users. Following the static IP example, you have to specify the rest of the parameters, namely the hostname, DNS server IP address(es) and the IP address of the machine giving you access to the Internet, known as the gateway (see Figure 18.3, Setting the DNS and Gateway IP Addresses [256]).
